You Can Learn a Lot from Experienced Trout Fishing Guides
Well, I should re-phrase this. You can learn a lot from a trout fishing guide that is willing to teach you a thing or two. If you’re thinking about using a guide for your next trip, there are a few things that you need to remember when making your selection. First and foremost, it’s best if your trout fishing guide has the mind of a teacher. That way, you’ll be able to not only get into the fish on your trip, but if you’re lucky you’ll be able to walk away with a nugget or two that will expand your knowledge of trout fishing and make you a better angler.
Beginners Can Learn More Quickly with a Good Trout Guide
When you’re just learning the ropes, it may be pretty difficult to keep your mind straight. There are a million different things to try and remember while you’re fishing. From reading new waters, to choosing an appropriate lure or fly, etc. Trying to keep all of these things clear in your head can be very overwhelming and can down-right sap the fun out of fishing if you’re not careful.
A good fishing guide will keep your mind focused on what’s important, and get newbies into the fish faster, which will maintain your interest and keep you focused on learning and improving.
I sometimes liken a good trout guide to a golf pro. At the end of the day, a new fisherman should learn as much as catch fish. If you are lucky enough to book a trout fishing guide on the same stretch of water for multiple days, an inexperienced fisherman can learn volumes.
Expert Fisherman Need a Trout Fishing Guide Too
Yeah, I said it. Experts sometimes need a trout fishing guide as well – for a number of reasons. First, if you’re fishing new water, there’s no better way to get into the fish more quickly. If you are going to be fishing the same body of water for several days, it may make sense to hire a trout fishing guide on day one. This will give you and your fishing buddies an opportunity to learn the hot spots, what tackle to use and other specifics that you may not know hitting the water alone. Then, once you have an opportunity to fish with the guide, you can fish the remainder of your trip filled with the knowledge (and hopefully with the trout) that you received on day one.
A Good Trout Guide Raises Your Game
Sometimes there’s nothing that will make you fish better than a good trout guide. There’s a fine line between a guide that is somewhat of a drill sergeant barking orders, and a trout guide that wants you to have a good time and catch a bunch of trout. If you’ve got a guide who knows that line, he can raise your game and make you a better trout fisherman.
Get a Guide Who Loves to Fish
Sounds simple right? At the end of the day, if you’re able to get a trout fishing guide who loves what he does, and it shows, you’re going to have a great time fishing. You will walk away from the experience a better fisherman and hopefully a sore arm from landing trophy-sized trout. There’s been more than one occasion when I have not only had a great day fishing when I’ve had a great trout guide, I have typically picked up a helpful nugget or trick that has made me a better angler.
